Cape Cod Makers’ First Meetup

Are you interested in learning about makerspaces and the growing international maker movement? Do you want to meet other makers and create a space right here on the Cape? We do! Cape Cod Makers is having its first meetup on Tuesday, March 19 at Tommy Doyle’s in Hyannis from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

This meeting will be an opportunity for the founding team of Cape Cod Makers to introduce the organization, our mission, and the steps we’ve taken so far to bring together the makers of Cape Cod. After an initial presentation, you’ll have a chance to give your input, and then we’ll have the first of many opportunities to socialize and brainstorm about education, innovation, art, design, and technology.

We’d like to hold these meetups on a monthly basis at different locations around the Cape. Planning and organizing a permanent space with well-established policies is our ultimate goal, but we don’t need to wait for the paperwork to start bringing makers together. These meetups will also include collaborative opportunities such as:

• Demonstrations and talks by local makers
• Project show-and-tell
• Sharing your favorite apps
• Reading club for related books (e.g. “Makers” by Chris Anderson)
• Mini-workshops
• Organizing events such as a makerfaire or Park(ing) Day
• Creating pop-up makerspaces

In addition we can talk about fundraising, locations, equipment, membership, structure, etc. that will help us create our full-fledged space.

Please sign up at so we can gauge interest and the size of our group. We look forward to seeing you on March 19th!

P.S. In order to guide the conversation at our meetup, we’d like to identify areas of interest in advance. What would you like to teach? What would you like to learn? We’ve created a survey and would appreciate your input. Here is the link: Even if you’re not able to attend the meetup, we still want to hear from you! The survey is open to anyone interested in contributing.
